Optometrist consultations
- Something is wrong with my eye, what should I do?
Any time you notice something different or abnormal with your eye—such as redness, pain, flashes of light, or blurry vision—it is important to see your Optometrist, Doctor, or Ophthalmologist as soon as possible. Book an eye test with us, after all, we only have one pair of eyes, and many eye conditions can be corrected, managed, or repaired with early detection and prompt action.
- I’m running late for my appointment. What should I do?
Running late? No problem! Just call us at (02) 8814 7450, and we’ll try to fit you in later that day if possible. That said, if you’re more than 10 minutes late, we may need to reschedule your appointment for another day to keep things running smoothly for everyone.
- What can I expect at my first eye test?
When you arrive, check in with the front desk and our Optometrist will call you in shortly. Most general eye tests consist of two parts:
- The prescription check to see whether or not your vision needs to be corrected (with prescription glasses and/or contact lenses).
- The health check to detect signs of eye health concerns.
- What can I expect with a diabetic check?
We set aside a little extra time for patients who need a diabetic eye check. If you have diabetes or high blood sugar, we recommend coming in for an eye test every 12 months, which includes dilating your pupils for a thorough check. Our Optometrist will use special eyedrops to gently enlarge your pupils, giving us a better view of the back of your eyes.
The drops take about 20 minutes to work and usually last for 2-3 hours, during which things might look extra bright. To make your visit safe and more comfortable, we suggest bringing sunglasses and arranging not to drive that day. We’re here to help you every step of the way!
- What is a visual field test and do I need one?
Not everyone needs a visual field test and we’ll perform one only as needed. When we need to gather more data about your eyes, we’ll let you know. It is a painless experience that checks your central and your peripheral (side vision) where you press a button similar to a video game. The test goes for about 15 minutes.
Glasses & contact lenses
- When can I pick up my glasses after ordering them?
We personally hand cut and fit most of our lenses in-house. The turn-around time for single vision glasses are roughly 1 week, while all other glasses such as multifocal/progressives take around 2 weeks. For urgent jobs or emergencies, we will try to get them made as soon as possible.
- When can I pick up my contact lenses after ordering them?
Generally, a day or two. If you have a prescription with us, just give us a quick call to place the order over the phone. We will contact you when they arrive, and you can claim your health insurance or pay for them when you pick up.
- Can I reuse my existing frames? Can I use frames I bought elsewhere?
Yes, we can fit prescription lenses into frames you already have if they are in a suitable condition. Learn more about bringing your own (BYO) frames 🔗.
- I found a frame I like online, can you order it in?
It depends on the make and model of the frame. Most frame models have a name and colour code on the inside face of the arm. Scribble it down and bring it in/give us a call, or send us the product link online 🔗 and we can see what we can do for you.
- What is prism in glasses?
Prism is a part of some prescriptions, mainly to help with double vision or tired eyes due to both your eyes not co-operating with each other. Our Optometrist will let you know if you require prism as part of your prescription.
Driving forms
- Do you submit Service NSW ‘Fitness to Drive’ forms?
Yes we do! We can submit them online and will also give you a print out to show your doctor if required.
